Abstract

In the framework of cognitive linguistics, the linguistic context serves as a cognitive tool, facilitating the widening of meanings of a word into various domains. "Categorization," also referred to as "classification," is defined within cognitive linguistics. The inherent meaning of categorization outlines the semantic widening of words within a semantic category called "radial network." In this category, the central meaning acts as a prominent member and prototype, around which other meanings (peripheral meanings) are organized into two clusters: agreement and opposition, as well as inclusive and metaphorical widenings. Religious heritage serves as a suitable example for evaluation under cognitive linguistic patterns. In this study, the sensory-abstract verb "baṣar" from the Sahifa Sajjadiya is selected to apply the prototype-based categorization principle within the framework of lexical semantics, using a synchronic semantic approach and a descriptive-analytical method. This research concludes that within the cognitive framework of the Sahifa Sajjadiya, the linguistic unit "baṣar" has a prototypical meaning as well as several peripheral meanings. The Imam's use of various morphological structures of "baṣar" is influenced by two elements: the audience and the delegation or non-delegation of the outcome to the audience..
