Abstract

The present article, entitled "Sheikh Najashi and the Bibliography of Hadith Books; Types and Functions," examines and analyzes the various descriptions of various books by Najashi, Rijal, and the fifth-century Hadith scholar. This research seeks to answer the question of what bibliographical information does Sheikh Najashi (d. 450 AH) provide to his audience in describing the hadith works of his predecessors? In this regard, the collection of various descriptions of the Book of Rijal by Najashi in evaluating the books was first identified, collected, typified, and then analyzed. This research is organized using a library method and a descriptive-analytical method. The achievement of the present study is that Najashi's bibliographical descriptions can be studied in three main categories: apparent descriptions (such as introducing classified and unclassified works, the size and volume of the books, and describing the structure of the books), content descriptions (including explaining the scientific content, the topics raised in the works, dividing the books based on the type of narrations and books of virtue), and list descriptions (which include categorizing books with different narrations and books of mixture, narrating books from masters, the process of transferring books, and valuing books).
